Discover Hive Cafe

When you walk into Hive Cafe, nestled on 16 Rimu Street in Eastbourne, Lower Hutt, you’re immediately greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. It’s one of those places that feels like a hidden gem, perfect for those who appreciate good food and a cozy environment. From the moment you step inside, you know you’re in for something special, whether you're a local or just visiting.

The cafe itself exudes charm with its contemporary design that still keeps a touch of rustic character. You’ll find that the interior is filled with natural light, giving the space a bright, airy feel. But it’s not just the atmosphere that draws you in; it’s the carefully curated menu that keeps people coming back. The diverse selection at Hive Cafe is a blend of hearty comfort foods and lighter options, all made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Take their famous eggs benedict, for example. The poached eggs are always perfectly runny, and the hollandaise sauce has just the right amount of creaminess with a touch of tang. Served with crispy bacon or a vegetarian option, it’s one of those dishes that you’ll crave on a lazy weekend morning. It’s clear that the chefs take pride in their work, ensuring that every dish is prepared with precision and love.

Another standout on the menu is the café's homemade granola. This dish is a favorite for those looking for a healthier breakfast or brunch option. With a generous serving of fresh fruit, yogurt, and a drizzle of honey, it’s light but still satisfying. Whether you’re in the mood for something indulgent or something a little more on the lighter side, Hive Cafe caters to all tastes.

One of the reasons why Hive Cafe stands out in the Lower Hutt area is the consistent quality of service. The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and more than happy to recommend something if you’re unsure of what to order. It’s this level of attentiveness that makes dining here feel personal and special, a feeling that many customers have expressed in their glowing reviews.

The coffee at Hive Cafe also deserves a mention. Whether you’re a fan of a strong espresso or prefer a creamy cappuccino, you’ll find something to suit your taste. They take their coffee seriously, and it shows. It’s one of the best places in the area to grab a cup of coffee, whether you're catching up with friends or just need a caffeine pick-me-up during a busy day.

Not to be overlooked is the beautiful location itself. Eastbourne is known for its relaxed, suburban charm, and Hive Cafe fits perfectly into this setting. The cafe offers not only great food but also a comfortable space to unwind, whether you're indoors or taking advantage of the outdoor seating area. The peaceful vibe of the neighborhood adds to the overall experience, making it an ideal place for both locals and visitors to stop by.

In terms of price, Hive Cafe is affordable for the quality it offers. It's not the cheapest café around, but the portion sizes and the quality of the ingredients make it more than worth the visit. • Really great job. The food was lovely, I had the brioche bun chicken burger, it was delicious. Others were delighted with their salmon eggs Benedict on potato rosti. The coffee was very good, they took the time to make me a special Cortado (wish it was on the menu, hint hint). Lovely staff doing great.

  • Always a great cafe, with excellent coffee, but even better on their Custard Square Saturdays. It's worth planning your Saturday routine to include it for coffee and a custard square thats - big enough to share. with two.

  • Lovely to sit outside on a hot day under shady umbrellas. Efficient fast-moving friendly smiling staff. Lots of food choice in the cabinet even though the cafe was busy. Our heated bacon & egg paninis were right temperature and brought to us in good time. The blueberry muffin was melt-in-the-mouth delicious.

  • Friendly staff, nice courtyard out the back which is sunny and sheltered. Food is typical cafe fare, selection isn't vast but no cause for complaint. I'll probably go back next time I'm in Eastbourne.

  • Located at the charming seaside suburb of Eastbourne, Hive Café is a destination worth the scenic drive along the waterfront on a sunny day. Established in 2016, Hive exudes warmth and authenticity, offering a space that caters to everyone—from locals to visitors like myself venturing out from Lower Hutt. Hive impresses with its variety of dining areas: cozy indoor seating downstairs, a quieter upstairs section, and a spacious courtyard out back perfect for soaking in the fresh air. The relaxed and quiet atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for unwinding, catching up with friends, or even working remotely with its extensive WiFi and ample power outlets. The menu and cabinet selections are thoughtfully curated, featuring options like freshly baked almond croissants, ham off the bone baguettes, and the beloved Spanish Breakfast that has been a staple since the café’s inception. Beverages include coffee brewed with locally roasted Karamu beans and seasonal kombucha for something refreshing. The staff are attentive and efficient, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Parking is stress-free, thanks to the absence of parking meters—an unexpected bonus in today’s world. Hive prides itself on its “always fresh, everyday” mantra, baking everything from scratch daily and striking a balance between meeting demand and reducing waste. This ethos shines through in the quality of their offerings. Whether you’re a local or an out-of-towner, Hive Café is a place where great food, excellent coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere come together. It’s definitely worth checking out the buzz for yourself!
